Over the weekend I had the opportunity to photograph Fern Croft Floral’s arrangement class. I also was able to participate and make an arrangement of my own. I have a brief history with floral arranging, as I dabbled in it when I worked on yachts seven years ago. The only difference is that these arrangements were made with art, thought, and style in mind, unlike those cheesy and basic yacht arrangements.
If you saw the article I wrote about Fern Croft last year, not much has changed. Erin Lalley-Bauer is still an undeniable talent. The theme of the class was asymmetrical balance, and creating arrangements with movement. Watching her build an arrangement step by step was fun and interesting to watch. She, along with Katy Abrams and Elizabeth Thomas, took the time to help each and every person in the class improve their arrangement skills, as well as encourage sustainable practices. Also, if you have not been to her shop on Bryant St. yet, you need to go! Not only is it one of my favorite spots in Buffalo, but it is kind of a happy place for me as well. It was so therapeutic to craft an arrangement and I encourage everyone to check out her future classes. It is very much worth it! Visit Fern Croft’s site to stay up to date on future classes.
