We’re 88 days from the first race of the 2019 season. As I not-so-patiently wait, I am looking back at some of my favorite images from last season and planning for this summer.
It may not be the best idea to talk about all of the things I want to accomplish this season, especially when things are not set in stone. But I think talking about my goals out loud and to everyone else helps to keep me accountable…and to follow through. One big thing i really want to dive into the season is videography. This is a skill I have recently really wanted to learn. Photography will always be my number 1, but in the age of social media, I am more intrigued about the world of vlogging.
Last year I made more of an effort to put myself into my social media channels more in hopes that people could ‘get to know the girl behind the camera’ more. I’d say that was successful. The thing I really love about vlogging is that it allows more of your personality to shine through. I don’t really know what I will record, or how well it will work out, but I like the idea of a vlog filling in the gaps and conveying the things that may be harder to write about. While I wait out the winter, I’ve been gathering inspiration from others. My favorite channels right now are The Sailing Yogi and S/V Gypsy Days.
I am really looking forward to the season ahead and branching out into new things. I am always looking for new ways to step up not only my photography, but sailing as well. I really try to seek out new opportunities each year in order to grow. I am lucky to be in a great network of people not only in Buffalo and Boston, but through social media as well. The sailing community is so incredible and inspirational. Through my bouts of seasonal depression, it’s the light at the end of the tunnel. Summer is coming…and so are new adventures!
