It was a gloomy start to the first of the 2019 Wednesday night season. S/V Slider is a Farr 40 and she was my ‘office’ for the night.
Upon arrival, the crew were working to prep everything for the race. She had only gone into the water days before. It was a close call for everyone, as Erie was still filled with ice a few weeks ago.
After leaving the slip, Captain Jack held a quick crew meeting to go over positions. The mainsail and jib were raised and before I knew up, I was high on the rail almost perpendicular to the water. This boat can MOVE.
I am pretty paranoid when it comes to my camera. I’ve lost one to water damage before, so I was hyper-sensitive to the rain as it slightly started to fall mid-race. Thankfully, the downpour held off long enough to get some pretty great shots and to get my camera safely into my bag once back at the slip.
Thank you to the entire crew on Slider for having me onboard!
