Ashley Schaffert has been infatuated by the water since a young age. Aside from her love of the ocean and marine wildlife, she spent ten years as a competitive swimmer and was a member of the University at Buffalo Women’s Swim Team. After graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor’s in studio art and photography, she moved to Boston where she worked as a photographer on a whale watch vessel before accepting a position within the New England Aquarium.
While in Boston, she also volunteered for wildlife non-profits like Whale and Dolphin Conservation and Atlantic Whiteshark Conservancy. She has worked in many different fields of photography, but always finds herself back at the water.
Schaffert now resides in Buffalo, NY with her husband Chuck and their pet rabbits Loafer & Sophie. She is a crew member onboard S/V Republic and races with the Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club. Schaffert aims to bring New England’s coastal vibe into her work along the shores of the Great Lakes in Buffalo.
